Why is Surat lacking in UPSC IAS/IPS candidates?

Surat has some achievements to its name. Surat has always been one of the leading cities to contribute in the statistics of growth and development. That’s a reason for pride and gratitude for any of us Surtis. In other fields too, Surat is gradually coming forward as a community of hard working and dependable people. Though, there’s one field where there needs to be more enthusiasm, which is IAS/IPS officers and other central government officers.

UPSC is the government body that conducts the Civil Services Exams to recruit class 1 and class 2 officers. They are amongst the highest ranked officers in the Indian government. These posts are highly sought by aspirants from around the country and thus there is a lot of competition for them.

Yet, not many students from Gujarat, let alone Surat, appear for these exams and that’s a shame. When it comes to UPSC coaching, Surat has been lagging behind, with no final selection results yet. We know that the young minds of Surat are among the brightest in the country and they can definitely crack the UPSC Civil Services. What they will need is proper dedication and guidance from experienced teachers. One of the reasons for this dearth of aspirants might be that there aren’t many institutes which provide quality UPSC coaching, Surat has a lot of potential and it is not being utilized for this purpose.

Let’s try and get another achievement in the name of out city, Surat. Let’s put it on the map where leaders of tomorrow’s India are created.
