Is it possible to do a job while preparing for IAS exams?

Some of us have ambitions for becoming Class 1 and 2 officers in the central government but are too busy with other necessary things that we need to do for a living. If you have a family that depends on you, or even if you live independently, you need a job to sustain yourself and your loved ones. It is difficult but possible.

What is important when making this decision?

The first question to ask yourself is “Can I give my IAS preparation enough time to crack the exams?” You will need to think about this carefully because you cannot make a half hearted attempt at IPS exams and expect to crack it. You will need at least 4 dedicated hours a day for reading plus 1 hour for catching up with current affairs. The more time you can make the better. Most of these hours will be spent in classes and discussions. You will have to join some class for IAS preparation. This is because you don’t have time to waste trying to curate your reading material and research what is important and what is not. Coaching classes will also help you maintain a schedule and help you connect with others with the same goals.
So if you can manage to set aside enough time for your IAS preparations along with the job, you have a chance at cracking the CSE. If not, you can still try, but it will take some talent to pass the exams. If you cannot set aside at least 3 hours for the exams then you should probably focus on something else.
